Predicting the Next President
¾ Part V
John McCain’s Kota Chakra; the
fallout from Super Tuesday

A reader writes:
It seems a new birth time for John
McCain has surfaced (8:37 a.m.,
http://starlightnews.com/wordpress/?p=262),
and in light of his surprising NH and FL
wins, do you think this new birth time
has any merit, and does it give him a
better chance at winning the nomination
and the general?
Your analysis of Hillary (as well as
others) is fantastic and I also believe
and hope that she will go on to be the
next president. Do you use Ashtakavarga
for transits at all? It appears Hillary
has a whopping 40 bindus in Leo, where
Saturn and Ketu are transiting. As you
know, Leo is her 11th house from the ASC
so that seems good (Yogakaraka providing
realization of major aspirations and
gains), and it is also the 7th from
Moon, another career house.
But Hillary's Varshphal for October
2007 has Muntha in the 7th so there are
a lot of oppositions for the year.
Fortunately, Varshpahl for October, 2008
will have Muntha in the 5th house with
4th and 11th lord Venus. I don't know if
you use Varshaphals at all but they seem
to be illuminating sometimes.
Also, since there are so many ways of
looking at transits (planets from ASC,
from Moon, Sarvatobhadra, Kota Chakra,
etc.), to which method would you attach
the most importance? I also tried to
look at transits for the primaries and
found that no major planets changed
signs from 1/3 to 1/8. However, Venus
changed Nakshatra to Jyeshta, and as you
know one of its symbolism is the "the
most senior one." So, I thought maybe
contrary to the prevailing polls at the
time, Hillary might win the NH primary
because she obviously is the most senior
one in her contest, and Venus is her
lagnesh and dasa lord. And McCain also
won. I'm not sure if this conjecture is
too far-fetched but just thought I'd let
an expert decide.
Cheers,
Leo

The proposed birth time for John
McCain is just 23 minutes earlier than
the 9 am time used before. If true, this
does not change his Virgo ascendant, but
it does change McCain's varga chart for
career, the D10 or dasamamsa, from
Capricorn to Scorpio ascendant. One way
to gauge the strength of a varga chart
is to see how well fares the lord of the
rasi chart bhava that corresponds to the
varga of interest. For the D10, look at
the 10th lord of the rasi chart and see
how it stands in the D10. Mercury is the
rasi 10th lord--and Lagna lord too--that
thus becomes the bija, or kernel, of the
D10. In this new time, Mercury is much
better placed in the 10th house of the
D10--yes, that is specially rich--as
opposed to being in the 8th house if the
birth is at 9 am. So 8:37 seems a more
likely birth time and now anything good
about Mercury can account for McCain's
move to frontrunner status.
And observe Mercury over the Super
Tuesday primaries as McCain becomes the
clear frontrunner, in his Kota Chakra!

Kota Chakra is a great
way to understand what is happening in a
life; planets in the central area are in
the foreground of events, while planets
on the outer squares are events that are
just dimly in mind. The Kota Chakra is
drawn with the birth Moon in the upper
left hand quarter (Northeast) and the
nakshatras go in order from birth Moon
toward the center. Then they turn left
and go out in the straight up (East)
direction. Then they come into the
center again from the upper right hand
corner (Southeast). Then they go out to
the right (South). They come around and
enter the center again from lower right
(Southwest), go back out straight down
(West), return from the lower left
corner (Northwest), and finally leave
the center straight to the left (North).

As of February 5, Super
Tuesday, the transit of Mercury brought
it to Dhanishta, at the center of
McCain’s Kota Chakra. In fact, McCain
began to emerge as the most likely
frontrunner for the Republicans just as
Mercury moved into Dhanishta back on
January 20th. The definitive meaning of
this move into the center of Kota Chakra
is underscored by the fact that Mercury
stationed here and will spend
considerable time tracing and retracing
this vital area. In addition, the Solar
Eclipse on the night of Feb. 6 does an
amazing pas de deux with Mercury here:
the Sun-Mercury conjunction occurs at
the edge of Dhanishta and then Mercury
retrogrades back into Sravana while Sun
and Moon do the eclipse in McCain’s
central area of Dhanishta.
[This edge between
Sravana and Dhanishta also happens to be
the acutely sensitive “primal scream”
area in the Sarvatobhadra Chakra, as
previously mentioned in these articles.
No wonder Super Tuesday was such an
intense event, marred even by terrible
storms that claimed many lives.]
McCain’s move to the
front is not to be lightly undone, so it
may be safe to expect he will be the
nominee, but watch carefully what
happens after March 14, when Mercury
finally leaves Dhanishta. The
candidate’s strength may then fade
somewhat. Still, he will probably hold
his position as the grand old maverick
of the Grand Old Party. Saturn holds
down the fort in Magha until early
August, and Saturn is a good planet to
have in the center, although natural
malefics are normally not desirable,
because for McCain Saturn is Kota Swami,
Captain of the Fort, because it is the
lord of his Moon rasi.
As for McCain’s chance
in the general election, an earlier
objection still holds: the karaka for
the Presidency is Sun, and placed in
12th house is at a disadvantage, and can
be feared to be given sorrow by the
things signified by Sun. McCain’s D10
Sun is in the 12th house from the USA’s
D10 Sun.
Regarding Hillary
Clinton, your points re Ashtakavarga and
especially re Munthas in Varshaphals are
very well taken. As for the transits, in
these articles the focus is on Kota
Chakra and Sarvatobhadra Chakra. Since
these techniques are so unfamiliar,
looking at several examples and coming
back to them repeatedly is necessary to
learn their power and effectiveness.
Kota Chakra is very bold and definite,
as I hope the McCain examples
underscore; Sarvatobhadra Chakra is
complex and sophisticated, holding lodes
of gems the practitioner must extract
and refine, just as you have noted the
entry of Venus into the Elder Sister’s
nakshatra as the elders won in New
Hampshire. Currently in Barack Obama’s
Kota Chakra (see previous article) the
placements of Jupiter in the center, and
the nodes and retrograde Saturn at the
outer corners, are perfection itself.
When the nodes slip back into
Capricorn/Cancer on April 29 a stick
will be stuck in the spokes, for anyone
experiencing a strong nodal return,
changing the rhythm, as Ketu will go
into Aslesha, at the East point in
Obama’s Kota chakra, while Rahu will
still be in Dhanishta in the Northwest
point and the geometry will be erratic.
Also Jupiter on April 5 will leave
Obama’s foreground nakshatra Purva
Ashada. Meanwhile, Jupiter will move
closer toward the center for Hillary
Clinton and her lot may improve but when
Jupiter stations on May 8 without
reaching Abhijit in the center of her
Fort, again it may feel like a
cliffhanger as to which of the
contestants can prevail. Jupiter only
reaches Abhijit for Hillary after the
election, but in time for Inauguration
Day, when the transiting Sun will join
transit Jupiter in the center of her
Fort in that very special tiny nakshatra
called the victor of all nakshatras. The
US is the country that inaugurates its
leader when the Sun is in Abhijit.
It makes for a very
exciting race; it seems impossible right
now that anything can stop the Obama
momentum on the Democratic side. These
chakras help to give us extra
perspective.
