Regulus Award

UAC 2008 Marion D. March Regulus Awards

by Carol A. Tebbs, Regulus Committee Chair

Astrologers around the world look forward to the high point of the United Astrology Conference (UAC), the Marion D. March Regulus Awards Banquet, where we enjoy good food and entertainment while honoring our peers.

To celebrate outstanding accomplishment in each of five categories, we present the Regulus Award, a beautiful marble statuette in the shape of a pyramid. The Regulus tradition began at UAC ’89 in New Orleans, Louisiana and continued at UAC ’92 in Washington D.C., at AC ’95 in Monterey, California, at UAC ’98 in Atlanta, Georgia, and at UAC 2002 in Orlando, Florida. We will again honor the Award recipients at UAC 2008 in Denver, Colorado.

The voting process began in 2006 when the UAC committees were formed. At that time, the entire astrological community was invited to send in their suggestions for nominees to the Awards Committee, an eight member panel consisting of two representatives from AFAN, ISAR and NCGR, 1 representative from CVA and a non-voting Chair. The response from the community for nominations was excellent with a dozen or more names suggested in each category. Some were suggested for more than one category and since a nominee may be named in only one category, the committee evaluated their significant accomplishments and placed them in the most appropriate category. To arrive at the final slate of nominees, the committee met to discuss each of the nominees to narrow the list to 10 in each category, then each of the 7 voting committee members sent a secret list of their top 6 choices in each category to an independent outside person for tabulation. The top five nominees in each category appear on the final ballot sent by your organization. The Categories Are:

  • DISCOVERY, RESEARCH and INNOVATION, recognizes one who has developed new tools or concepts to advance the study and practice of astrology.
  • EDUCATION, recognizes the work of teaching through the published and spoken word, or the founding of schools and study programs.
  • THEORY and UNDERSTANDING, recognizes one whose work demonstrates the use of astrology with other disciplines and thereby encourages acceptance of astrology as a separate philosophical model or recognized discipline.
  • COMMUNITY SERVICE, recognizes service above and beyond the call of duty, promoting good will ad positive communication among astrologers.
  • PROFESSIONAL IMAGE, recognizes the astrologer as seen in business, community and in the public media exhibiting ethical professional standards and performance.

As a current member of one or more of the four sponsoring organizations, you may vote more than once, even several times, according to your verified membership status. Be certain to include your name and address in the return address portion of the envelope, or your ballot will not be counted. Balloting closes on March 15, 2008, so mail your ballot as soon as you have decided your vote. Don’t miss this opportunity to honor your peers.
